As I reflect back on our community service project that we all shared together for the past three days, I would like to say it was truly the highlight of my year. . . I mean that in every way possible . . . I learned so much about our students and their compassionate way of caring, giving, learning, and willing to help out in any way possible. |

Not once was their any complaining in all of the hard work that they performed. Our action packed schedule from stem-to-stern that we sustained from sunrise to sunset could have broken any hard working adult let alone any teenager, but not our vocational students. They know how to work hard and get the job done.
I salute and honor each and every one of them for who they are and how they are stepping up and becoming community leaders of volunteers themselves with a warm, caring, heart and soul that are to helping others. What a great bunch of students and staff that we have at Assabet !
What really got me thinking was how cheerful the kids were to all of the homeless veterans that they served meals to each day; even after they cleaned up they sat down to talk with many of the homeless vets, I watch and listened from afar to how our students were interacting with each of the veterans that they met. They were all engaged and interested in learning, listening and caring about the veterans lives. |

| This issue of homeless veterans is very sad issue and one that is close and dear to my heart, but Veterans Inc homeless shelter is making great strides in reaching out and helping Veterans in need. I think our students truly understand the value in helping a veteran who is in need of a little assistance while getting them back up on their feet. I am so proud of our students and what they have accomplished . . . it was truly an amazing experience for both students and adults alike. The group of staff members was such a good blend of adults who followed your lead in getting the task at hand done. While along the way, we shared lots of smiles, laughs, and cheers. Your bubbly, cheerful, kind way about yourself was just what the students and staff needed each day as we progressed through our service projects. |
|
At the end of the day, I salute your efforts, your endless drive, and your leadership style in getting the group to blend together and have fun along the way. We all shared tears, laughter, smiles and reflections in how peoples lives can become turned upside down. But Assabet's compassionate way was within keeping with the parable of the mustard seed, we are making a difference in our world with one small planted seed at a time!
Thank you for a wonderful community service experience.
Warm Regards,
The Navy Chief |
